Which means I supply 5V to all the VDD pin3,11,13 and ground all 3 ground pins pin5,9,12 and build the oscillator at pin 7 and 8.

Where pin 2, 15, 14 are left open in the application circuit. Another question: I will need 1 application circuit page15 figure15 for both transmitter and receiver side right? Means 1 at transmitter and another 1 at receiver. The circuit at the both sides is the same? Funny, figure 7 on page 11 has a wrong label that can be misleading And yes, you need to create "n" identical devices, in order to let them talk together.

DarioG Ok! Now, I want to try to build the circuit in page19 figure The power supply part with 78L05 is not necesary right? So I will only build the transmit and receive part with the murata transformer Another question: Is all the inductor has to be copper coil type or those with color line type like resistor?

Can just put a NPN Transistor on the isolation trafo with its collector connected to one of the Timer inputs and measure the freq? How to get a solid Khz Square wave on the receiving Msp's port pin? Nischay Kumar V said: no takers? Nischay Kumar V said: Can just put a NPN Transistor on the isolation trafo with its collector connected to one of the Timer inputs and measure the freq?

With far better detection smaller bandwidth, more precise center frequency etc. And the operating voltage fits the MSP better. Unfortunately, teh circuit is property of my employer. Nischay Kumar V said: you mean this one. However, there can be so much noise of any kind on the power line, so using a good filter is the only way to avoid erroneously detected bits, up to a complete communication failure. The above circuitry or our derivate has proven quite robust.

Hi Nischay, I am just curious, why you wish direct detect KHz carrier? If so a DSP is needed, MSP has not enough computing power to discriminate carrier from noise, a better tuned front end can be used for or a specialized power line modem, I remember old pain with power line coupling and huge noise from incoming unfiltered china made PC psu. I hope a DSP to discriminate noise is not the good solution so a clean power line is better, also a good psu can be a better idea than one can burn itself and broke everything is connected to.

Hi Michael, I know about X10, I own from 18 year ago and never worked on EU lines due to huge noise so I switched to other transmission method in particular spread spectrum with redundance, EDAC Viterbi filter and line impedance adaptive filtering. If our friend wish a different method to do X10 communication I am interested in, also in USA work worst, noise raised due to non FCC-CE conformity of cheap china made rubbish spreaded over the world After this an alternate detector can be as i suggested from line modem chip or direct conversion detection, DRC peak envelope detector is a worst solution, tuned amplifier with AGC on receive chain also is worst due to noise same reason for tone detector fooled by noise.

I wait to ear from Nischay what was crunching about, sharing knowledge sometimes help solve problem or discover unseen hack. Roberto - Yes, Mains lines are very noise with all sorts of appliances injecting noise in to them, especially cheap PC power supplies. I was looking for simpler solution than the one mentioned in Microchip's appnote to detect Khz burst.

I'll try to use old reliable Tone decoder NE Our Ultra Low Power MSP is very susceptible to noise and doing X10 stuff with MSP would need lot, lot of filtering and the end product would be much expensive and complex than commercial ones. Hi Nischay, not really, MSP is less and less more sensitive to noise than PIC used on X10 appliances, X10 where born with simple ttl or cmos logic port wired logic and power lines where clean due to all linear psu and switching PSU wasn't so popular as these days.

Also zero crossing was clean due to triak noise, nowaday zero crossing is no more clean. FSK from Carlson rule require two time the band of transmitted signal and FSK modulation is dominated by statistic frequency of modulating signal, so you need a digital filter in front of modulator to change entropy of signalling.

Better idea but this is not X10 modulation. Again FSK application came from telephony modem, these frequency are in. OOK on X10 use a KHz carrier, so the most simple filter require about one hundred calculation per filter, also from Nyquist-Shannon Theorem you need at almost KHz sampling rate, narrow band rise to a more worst sampling requirement so a KHz minimum sampling rate is required, this raise computing power to about 60 MIPS, again DSP or Stellaris is required to do direct signal processing, stellaris cost not much more than an MSP but why settle for a so difficult solution?

The best idea I can suggest to try, and this depend where you are living is to try direct conversion receiver,. Tuning the local oscillator to an appropriate frequency the beat generated by X10 carrier result in a low frequency tweet you can decode by MSP filtering using just a fraction of computing power, try from DTMF detector application or FSK detector deriving one filter sw, if you need more help tell me.

One more complex also expensive front end can use ceramic resonator or active filtering instead of LC tank, try get inspire from norcal 40a here:.

I hope this can be the best and inexpensive solution. Instead of tuning oscillator and have drift from local oscillator tank LO can be generated from MSP filtered square wave raising or lowering frequency by the center band frequency of implemented digital filter, again I hope this can the best reliable flexible and inexpensive too solution. Thanks Romano, for the detailed explanation and links. I am not doing any commercial stuff here, just looking for simple X10 communication using Msp
